olive rowell

Olive grew up enjoying lots of different crafts, especially those which included thread, fabric and colour. She then utilised these skills during her long and successful retail career during which time she developed a passion for travel, developing her interest in different cultures.

When she stopped working, she was able to pursue formal education firstly through City and Guilds; followed by obtaining her BA (Hons) in hand embroidery at The Royal School of Needlework and then an MA in Modern India at King's College, London. For both her BA and MA she focused on textiles in rural India and how they could be used to provide a regular income and help limit migration to the cities. Since then she has continued to learn new skills, mainly by attending workshops.

Her work now combines creating her own fabrics with her passion for stitch and cultural issues.
