robertta mcpherson

profile

Robertta's childhood fascination with fabrics and stitching evolved, from making clothes for dolls and dressmaking, into a passion for hand embroidery.

On-site sketching and photography are employed as a starting point to interpret nature and man-made materials, such as glass, metal and stone. Robertta uses needle and thread, layers of sheer fabrics, paint and paper, to 'draw and paint' her finished pieces. Experimenting with stitch, the excitement of colour and texture are important elements of her work.

A constant source of inspiration, for her work, is the beauty and variety found in the natural world. The exploration of architectural and still life themes has brought new challenges. The use of different materials, machine embroidery and print has given added stimulus and direction to the development of Robertta's work.
