Sam is a fashion and textiles lecturer, textile artist, fabric and thread enthusiast! Textiles have excited her for over twenty years ever since she studied a degree in woven textiles at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham (now University for the Creative Arts) in the 1990’s. Since her degree Sam has explored a larger range of textile techniques and processes, such as hand embroidery, progressing to machine embroidery and then into patchwork and quilting. In 2014 Sam was able to study on the Wet ‘n’ Wild course at Committed to Cloth under the tuition of Claire Benn and Jo Lovelock where she was introduced to using various printed textile techniques and she has been working out of the C2C studio ever since. Sam is also the Backstage Director for Fashion London and Top Model UK/Worldwide, in this role she coordinates models, hair and beauty teams and fashion designers who are showing their latest collections to the Worlds Press.
Sam is inspired by place particularly capturing memories, feelings and moments in time. At the beginning of a body of work she often spends time writing and researching. Sam has recently spent a week studying with artist Sandra Brownlee and is currently considering how this can be integrated into her own textile practice. She likes to work in a series linking and developing her ideas whilst exploring printed processes in combination with stitch. Currently Sam is exploring how her cancer journey can be interpreted in a visual way in order to capture her life before and after cancer.
