Linda mostly makes textile art pieces for the wall – both framed and free-hanging. She loves stitch and finds the movement of needle and thread through fabric an absorbing occupation. She enjoys creating rich, textured and subtly coloured surfaces using dyed fabric, paper and chiffons. Patterns, natural and manmade, and manipulated photographs printed onto fabric form the basis for many of her pieces. She also thrives on travelling and her work is often themed on places she has been, where quick sketches and many photographs help her to build up an impression of the place. She also makes textile based jewellery and gifts – brooches, necklaces, notebooks and so on.
For most of her life Linda has been a maths teacher who embroidered in her spare time. But during a spell living in Singapore, she was able to study the culture and textiles of South East Asia. Since October 2000, she has followed her second career as a textile artist, exhibiting in both solo and group shows (about 120 so far!).
In 2011, Linda was voted runner up in the Baines Surrey Artist of the Year by visitors to her Open Studio and to the finalist exhibition in the New Ashgate Gallery in Farnham.
She also gives talks and runs workshops for Embroiderers Guild groups and others.
