You might have noticed that our member Marie-Ghislaine Beauce has recently been exhibiting her work internationally. In this blog she describes how this came about and gives us some advice.
In October 2022 I received a message through my Instagram account inviting me to be featured in the Madrid edition of ART ANTHOLOGY VI, a book which is distributed among the principal art galleries around Madrid a copy of which is also deposited in the National Library of Spain. It is a free edition so I had to contribute to the cost of printing this edition but this initial outlay has been worthwhile as since then I have been contacted by numerous art galleries around the world to exhibit my work either physically or digitally. Digital representation has its advantages as there is no worry about sending the actual artwork to the Gallery. Many problems can arise when sending work abroad such as delays in customs or work being damaged during shipping. However the downside of digital representation is that the image of your work is not always a perfect representation of it in size, depth and texture of the materials used.
Being personally invited to take part in an international exhibition reassures me that my work can be appreciated by a wider audience and gives a boost to my self esteem. In a group exhibition it is also interesting to see my work in juxtaposition with others of the same size, mine being fairly large.
My relationship with the gallery curator has always been courteous, understanding and helpful, especially with the paperwork involved in the shipping of the pieces which can be tricky and costly. From the outset I set up an account with an international courier working in partnership with major brands of shipping companies to make things simpler for me. They offer a choice of services and prices which means that when sending a parcel, after filling in the form online with advice from the curator, the only thing I need to do is to print the labels before collection.
The curators have also been outstanding for improving my artist’s statement and to promote the artworks through different social media platforms. To date I have sold two of my pieces.
I am engaged for a few more international exhibition projects well into 2024: another one in New York (digital) and others in Paris, a museum in Spain, Vienna and Germany.
